Barcelona, 21 November 2019 – Leading up to the World Urban Forum 10 (WUF10), UN-Habitat participated and engaged with key stakeholders from the smart city ecosystem at the Smart City Congress 2019 in Barcelona, Spain (19-21 November).
The event welcomed corporate leaders, public representatives, entrepreneurs, experts and academics from around the world to discuss how smart initiatives can make sustainable cities flourish, as well as create pathways for international collaboration around urban issues.
There was high interest in UN-Habitat’s work with cities and urban resilience, and a strong commitment to developing and advancing the smart agenda during WUF10.Thousands of event participants stopped by the UN-Habitat’s stand to learn more about WUF10 and how to get involved. The host of the upcoming Forum, Abu Dhabi, was also on hand to engage with partners on what to expect from the global event in February.
Considering Barcelona is home to the UN-Habitat Urban Resilience Hub, UN-Habitat utilised the platform of the event to introduce topics such as the monitoring of SDGs and the urban resilience agenda. Additionally, UN-Habitat moderates and drove dialogue among relevant stakeholders around how tailoring cutting-edge smart solutions to the changing needs of diverse urban contexts around the world, especially those in developing countries.
