The Barcelona Resilience Days (BRD) is the global platform for discussion and learning between leading cities and international organizations working to build more resilient communities all over the world.
The Barcelona Resilience Days is based on three complementary key events created for raising awareness, promoting city practice and knowledge on urban resilience, from October to December 2018: the World Cities Day, the Barcelona Resilience Week, and the International Forum on Urbanism.
With a full programme of sessions, workshops, activities and discussions, the Barcelona Resilience Days aims to strengthen the means of implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, New Urban Agenda, Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and Paris Agreement, as well as to revitalize global partnerships for action.
The Barcelona Resilience Days is a common arena for global commitment to further AWARENESS, ACTION and KNOWLEDGE on URBAN RESILIENCE
The United Nations has designated every 31st of October as World Cities Day. The aim is to promote the international community’s interest in global urbanization, push forward cooperation among countries in meeting opportunities and addressing challenges of urbanization, and contributing to sustainable urban development around the world.
Understanding that the public space is a vital ingredient of successful resilient cities, and it helps build a sense of community, civic identity and culture, the new Barcelona superblocks (superilles) are the proposed spots to host the celebrating activities of the World Cities Day.

The Barcelona forum, organized by the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya UIC, will convene academics from different disciplines and policy leaders to discuss the most relevant research challenges related to urban resilience conceptualization and implementation.
The conference will help to bridge science and policy while supporting a consistent operationalization of the New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goal 11: “Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.”
Outputs from this first international event will feed into the Jakarta IFOU conference, a few months later.
